It has been years!

No one has posted in years to this blog so it is past time for an update. Uncle Rollin and Aunt Lyn have both passed away. His brother, my father, August celebrated his 85 birthday this summer by having some 25 family members vacation with him in a huge home at Virginia Beach for a full week. We had such fun!! Our daughter, Kate, got married this summer (for the second time). She married a fine young man, Jonathan Zimmerman of Sterling, Kansas. Our younger daughter, Maggie, traveled the world for nearly a year and then came home to live while she earned her Masters in Teaching ( Dec. 2014). She is still living a home as she serves as the Farm-to-school coordinator for N.E. Georgia. Tara retired from the local school system several years ago and is enjoying her retirement. I am still the chair of the Mass Comm. department at Piedmont College. This is an open invitation to any and all Van Cantforts to come visit the North Ga. mountains and spend a few days with us. Our best to all ... Dale & Tara

Summer 2009

Tara, Dale, Kate, Maggie, Emma, and Tracy spent 8 days this summer in the Pacific Northwest. We spent two days in Seattle, one day in Victoria and 5 days in the Port Angeles/Olympic National Park area. The good news is that everyone survived and for the most part we had fun!?!

This past spring we "lost" two of our dogs; Musa, the Great Dane, became ill, lost 25 pounds and eventually had to be put down while Fancy, the 14 year old little lady, went both blind and deaf and we finally had to put her down too.

In June we got a new puppy! An 8 week old Great Dane named Lucas. At the same time we found homes for the two strays we found. so as of July we just have Lucas and Maggie's old Lab, George.

Dale is set to start a new school year at Piedmont College and Tara will once again be at the local elementary school. Hope everyone is having a great summer with plans for an even better fall!!

2008....
Our first full year of being grand-parents as Emma Louise Van Cantfort-Carpenter joined us in this world on October 9, 2007. She spent her first Christmas with us in Clarkesville and came back to visit us in July and again for Thanksgiving. During her Thanksgiving visit she took some of her very first steps even though she still prefers to motor around on her knees. We only wish that Kansas wasn’t so far away!

Maggie spent the year out in the state of Washington. She came home for Thanksgiving and Christmas and in between spent 10 days sailing around the islands of Grenada with a “friend who happens to be a boy”.

We celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary in June by spending several days at a B & B near Roane Mountain State Park. It claims to have the largest stand of native rhododendron in America. It was quite spectacular to see!

Tara is in her 6th year at Cornelia Elementary school working with another exciting group of kindergarteners. Just last month, Dale was appointed chair of the Mass Communications Department at Piedmont College.

We have lots of real room, plenty
to see and do in the area and truly hope you will
take some time and come visit. We wish you a happy
and safe holiday, and a fulfilling New Year!

All the best,
Tara and Dale (706) 754-6907

Welcome Tracey Van Cantfort

A "new" Van Cantfort has found our blog! Welcome to Tracey Van Cantfort. I think that Tracey is a third cousin of our daughters, Kate and Maggie. his email is listed below ... DVC

I ran across a Van Cantfort family blog and tried to post.... just wanted to introduce myself. I am Tracey Van Cantfort and I live in Houston. My grandfather was Edward Van Cantfort. He was married to Clarena Burns and had 2 children, David (my Dad) and Edna. I never got to know him. I remember hearing that he moved to California. My brother, Todd, met the Van Cantfort's in Belgium when he was in the Air Force. I know we are all related and I would just like to know family history and how many of us are out there and how we are all related.... look forward to hearing from you.

Take care....

Summer is Here!

Summer has arrived in the North Ga. mountains. Tara and I are enjoying working in our garden in the mornings and staying out of the afternoon heat. Kate, Tracy, and EMMA will come to Ga. for a visit, July 16-23. Maggie may make it home that week too! Their Aunt Terry and cousin Jenn will be at Callaway Gardens that week ... we hope to all get together for a day at the Gardens. Attached should be a picture of Emma at play ... let us know what is happening in your world ... have a great summer.

Spring 2008

Springtime is slowly coming to North Ga. The dogwoods have just started to open and the grass is turning green. The weatherman says we may have one more freeze next week. After that it should stay spring like. A busy school-year is quickly coming to an end. both of us are ready to enjoy a "lazy" summer. Tara recently got to visit with our new grand-daughter, Emma Van Cantfort-Carpenter. Emma is now 6 months old and beginning to get teeth. Grndpa Dale hopes to see her soon. Tara and I plan on spending most of the summer in north Ga.. The welcome mat is always out, so come see us ... love to all ... Dale & Tara
